Steven Hammell waxes lyrical over Leeds United sensation Stuart McKinstry
Leeds United attacker Stuart McKinstry has been tipped to have an illustrious future by Motherwell academy director Steven Hammell.
Hammell watched the winger progress through the ranks at Motherwell and envisages him to have a huge future at Elland Road.
Recently, he was called up to the Scotland U-21 squad and is also making strides at Leeds, knocking on Marcelo Bielsa’s door for his first-team bow.
Speaking about him on the Lanarkshire Live Sport Podcast, Hammell said, “There’s no right or wrong scenario. It is difficult but Stuart McKinstry is a fabulous young player.
“If a team in England come and offer anything you want as a young player, then of course it’s difficult to say no. All we can do is progress what we have here and sell our story.”
“I’m sure Stuart will do wonderful things and become a household name in the next three or four years – but I don’t want to put too much pressure on the young man! He’ll do well because of his attitude.”

Can’t wait
McKinstry is having so many nice things being said about him and we cannot wait to see him for the first team.
He’s been thriving at the Under-23s level and the only logical next step is to break into the senior side.
Bielsa anyway sees the youngsters as an extension to the first-team, so he’s possibly paying as much attention to the likes of McKinstry as he is to some of his regulars.
Should he continue doing what he is, we’re sure it won’t be long before we see him regularly featuring on matchday squads.
He’s certainly got the potential to go the distance and we’re hoping that the Leeds hierarchy shows faith in him.
