Phil Hay: Leeds United not afraid to move on Mateusz Klich if he becomes ‘Expendable’

Phil Hay has insisted that Leeds United will not be afraid to move Mateusz Klich on from the club once he becomes “expendable”.

It has not been the best of seasons so far for the Polish international, with fan anger hitting boiling point after the 3-2 defeat at Chelsea.

Hay shared that no one is “indestructible” and Leeds will make a sale if they feel as though he is no longer useful at Elland Road.

Writing in his latest piece for The Athletic, Hay shared that no player is untouchable and Klich will be moved on when the time feels right.

“Maybe, on the evidence of that goal at Stamford Bridge, Klich still has it and has what Bielsa needs,” he said.

“Or maybe he doesn’t. It is hardly the point. Clubs change, teams evolve, players age and nothing stands still. When Klich feels expendable, Leeds will move him on. No one is indestructible. No coach or player has a job for life.”

Time is coming?

Everyone will feel when their time is coming to an end at one club, but we don’t feel as though that is the case for Klich.

The Polish international has a huge role to play in the next couple of months, with Kalvin Phillips said to be out long-term until possibly the end of January.

With Adam Forshaw back to play in that role, Klich could be used alongside Stuart Dallas in the midfield when looking to go more defensive, as we may do against Manchester City this evening.

The abuse that led to him deleting his Twitter account over the weekend was unacceptable, it was one mistake and everyone in this squad has been guilty of that – even Raphinha in the same game.

No one is expecting this to last forever, but Klich certainly has time on his side to prove all those doubters wrong this season.
