Phil Hay: Leeds to be pragmatic in January window, not set for “wild expenditure”
Phil Hay has shared that Leeds United will need to be “pragmatic” in the upcoming January transfer window.
The Whites are currently lingering above the relegation zone in the Premier League with some horror fixtures to come.
Hay insisted that Andrea Radrizzani won’t need to be “wild” with his expenditure, but that a quiet window would be a huge risk.

Writing in the comments of his latest piece for The Athletic, Hay insisted that the Whites need to be more “pragmatic.”
“There must be options in the market,” he wrote.
“Everyone needs to be a little pragmatic this time. It’s common sense to reinforce. Doesn’t need to be wild expenditure but a quiet window would be a big risk.”

Big risk.
No one needs to be told just how big of a risk it would be for Leeds to go through January without making any signings.
The early injury signs are looking horrendous, with Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper all looking as though they won’t play any part until 2022 anyway.
That leaves two huge holes in midfield and attack, with Robin Koch returning to sooth the loss of our captain.
Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t like the January window, and although some may think he can, there is no way he can work miracles with what he has available right now.
Victor Orta simply has to be unleashed next month to make two or three signings, it is the only way we can see our Premier League status being retained comfortably.
If not, it’s time to strap in for a bumpy ride between then and May, and it could end in tears for everyone involved.
