Phil Hay: Leeds expect 49ers Enterprises to provide fresh funding

Leeds United expect that the transfer of shares from Andrea Radrizzani to 49ers Enterprises will continue, potentially providing fresh funding, as per Phil Hay.

Back in January, the minority stake purchased for £10million by the NFL franchise’s investment arm in 2018 jumped to almost 40 per cent, and that significantly altered the balance of power in the boardroom [The Athletic].

While neither Leeds nor 49ers Enterprises revealed the precise numbers involved, the investment is believed to have been worth around £50million as the Italian businessman values the club at £250 million [The Athletic].

Good news?

The Elland Road outfit will need to make quality recruitment in the coming transfer windows as their current squad could do with some large-scale upgrading.

They have not particularly been splashing the cash every window since their return to the big time, but major squad changes could be on the cards, and the decision-makers will need to bring out the chequebook.

Despite what happened in January, it appears Leeds do not have anything to worry about, with those at the club confident that the deal between Radrizzani and 49ers Enterprises will continue to make needed funds available.

While the constant injuries that have beleaguered Marcelo Bielsa’s side this term has contributed to their struggles, there is no denying that the Whites lack quality depth in some key areas.

Picking up just two Premier League wins in 10 is a reflection of where the Leeds team is currently is, and things must improve if they realistically want to start pushing for Europe.

Quality additions are required for any team looking to challenge the bigwigs, and it will be interesting to see how the Yorkshire giants go about this going forward.
