Phil Hay has finished writing his must-read book about Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United

A book chronicling Marcelo Bielsa’s time at Leeds United has been in the works for some time but the Phil Hay-authored tale has been completed, according to Orion Publishing.

The Athletic’s Hay, popular among Leeds fans for his high-level coverage of the Whites, revealed back in January that he had been asked to write the story of Bielsa at the West Yorkshire club.

He announced that it would be called ‘And It Was Beautiful…’ and would be available to read from August 26, 2021.

Now it has been divulged on the Orion Publishing Twitter account, in a message retweeted by Hay, that the book has been finished, pending the final editorial process.

They wrote: “Any news, Phil? Here’s some great news for Leeds United fans…

“Phil Hay’s book on Leeds United’s glorious rebirth under Marcelo Bielsa is finished and is heading to his editor for final tweaks before going to print. Not long now, it’s out on August 26.”

We’re big fans of Leeds, Bielsa and Hay, so this is the perfect hat-trick for us.

Hay’s reporting of the Whites has been top-notch, especially since he joined The Athletic team where he has gained unrivalled access to the club and its going-ons.

If you want to know something about Leeds, you ask Hay. That’s how the popular term ‘Any news, Phil?’ has been born.

With a foreword from Leeds director of football Victor Orta, it really does sound like a must-read for all Whites supporters.

Indeed, fans of any clubs are sure to be spell-bound if they pick it up, such is the character and influence of Bielsa which will be detailed in all its glory by Hay.

El Loco’s time at Elland Road has been nothing short of riveting since he pitched up, to much surprise, in 2018.

There have been lows along the way, notably the Derby County defeat in the 2019 play-off semi-final, but those moments have been few and far between as he has reinvigorated the club from top to bottom.

August 26, we’ve saved the date and can’t wait to pick up our copy of Hay’s tell-all book about Bielsa’s time at Leeds.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have enquired over this exit-bound goalkeeper admired by Pep Guardiola.
