Stuart Dallas isn’t far away from getting a new contract with Leeds United, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
Dallas, 29, scored two goals, one of which being a last-minute winner, for Leeds United as they beat Premier League champions-elect Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad on Saturday.
The Northern Ireland international is arguably a contender for Leeds’ player of the season in their first campaign back in the Premier League and Hay has suggested he could be set for a new contract.
After the match, a Leeds fan said on The Athletic website that the club needs to hand Dallas a new contract and Hay replied by saying: “I don’t think it’ll be long.”
Well, that’s Dallas
It’s hard to do Dallas’ season justice in words.
The Cookstown Cafu has been sensational, scoring seven goals and supplying two assists in 31 Premier League appearances.
Bear in mind he’d never played in the Premier League this season.
Dallas was someone who had become synonymous with the Championship. A player who didn’t quite stand out in the second-tier but was always there, playing every week and putting in decent performances.
Marcelo Bielsa has managed to raise the standards of so many players at Leeds and Dallas’ improvement has to be one of the most remarkable.
From mid-table Championship man to someone taking the Premier League – and Man City – by storm. It’s some rise for the 52-times Northern Ireland international.
What’s more remarkable about Dallas is that he’s played in almost every single outfield position in the last few seasons for Bielsa with his latest string of impressive displays coming from the centre of the midfield.
He’s less Cookstown Cafu and more Cookstown Kaka nowadays.
Dallas’ current contract at Leeds doesn’t expire until 2023 so there’s no rush to get him tied down to new terms.
But there’s no doubt he deserves an improved pay package with him now proving himself to be a great Premier League player.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this “unique” Premier League player as they prepare to offload Rodrigo.
