Leeds United want to sign Sergio Aguero with the striker set to leave Manchester City at the end of the season, according to 90min.
Aguero, 33, confirmed last month that he’ll be leaving the Etihad at the end of the season after 10 years with the current Premier League leaders.
It is understood that the Argentine centre-forward has now attracted attention from across the Premier League and the rest of the world with Leeds joining Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and West Ham in the growing list of clubs linked with a free transfer in the summer.
While Leeds cannot offer European football to Aguero next season, 90min reports that Marcelo Bielsa is a “known fan” and the prospect of not having to relocate due to the close proximity of Leeds to Manchester City could be a factor that smooths the wheels on any potential deal.
90min also claims “the passion of the fans could play a huge part in Aguero’s decision this summer”.
It is understood that Bielsa wants to add to his attack as Leeds are keen to cash in on Rodrigo in the summer despite him becoming the club’s record-signing less than a year ago.
We don’t quite know what to write about this with so many thoughts whirling around inside our hear the moment.
Aguero with Bielsa at Leeds United? Get out.
As much as we would love to see one of the Premier League’s greatest-ever players head to Elland Road in the summer transfer window, there’s just as much chance of Bielsa heading to Derby County.
Aguero truly is a global icon in football.
In his decade at Man City he’s won countless trophies and scored a stunning 257 goals in 385 appearances across all competitions.
The 32-year-old has had injury issues this season and has only played 15 times in all seasons, notching three goals in the process. But there’s no denying that a player of his quality is someone we would not turn our nose up at.
It’ll be a sad day for Man City when Aguero plays his final game of them at the end of the season.
While he’s been linked with Arsenal, Gunners boss and ex-Man City coach Mikel Arteta has ruled out a move for the one-of-a-kind striker.
Sky Sports quoted Arteta as recently saying: “”It is not only the way in which he plays [but] his charisma, personality and the way he is. He is loved by everybody at the club.
“It is sad to see someone leaving like him but I think what he has done there he will be in the history.
“Sergio has a unique quality to see spaces where nobody else can see and score goals in a really easy way so that I am sure that he will find the right next project.”
We’d love to see Aguero stay in the Premier League and prove to Man City they probably should have offered him a contract extension.
But with clubs who are possibly going to be in Europe next season being linked, the chances of him heading to Leeds aren’t even worth talking about.
When you consider the fact that Bielsa would still probably start Patrick Bamford over Aguero, you have to see that this is simply something that won’t happen.
In other Leeds United news, this radio broadcaster was stunned by a Leeds fan who explained why he could boycott Elland Road.
