Phil Hay delivers news Leeds fans have been dreading
Phil Hay relayed the injury news that Leeds United fans were fearing on Monday night, with both Liam Cooper and Diego Llorente ruled out with groin injuries.
Llorente is out for three weeks with Cooper likely out for two weeks. However, he will have a fitness update ahead of the Wolves game on Monday.
Both players picked up the injuries on international duty and both have returned to Thorp Arch where they had scans.
Nations League is peak stupidity
We’ve always thought this international break, packed with Nations League games, was peak stupidity and Leeds have now been hit where it hurts, at the centre of their defence.
It’s doubly tough that Cooper’s replacement is out at the same time – and this would have been Llorente’s chance to show just what he can do for Leeds.
If there’s any consolation, it could have been worse for both players and Cooper’s injury doesn’t sound as bad as Llorente’s. But, while they’re saying Cooper could face Wolves we doubt he will.
We think it would be better to let him sit that game out and let Pascal Struik come in. He coped well in a baptism of fire alongside Robin Koch against Liverpool in the first game of the season.
Leeds fans will now be nervous about the possibility of Robin Koch playing for Germany in their Nations League game against Switzerland tonight.
He likely won’t start but Leeds fans will be happy for him to sit the whole game out – an injury to Koch on top of Llorente and Cooper would be catastrophic.
