Phil Hay delivers Leeds update as report claims Alioski 'very close' to joining Galatasaray
Leeds United fans are very concerned at a report that claims Gjanni Alioski is ‘very close’ to signing for Turkish club Galatasaray after snubbing a new contract offer at Elland Road.
His current deal expires in June and he can leave as a free agent in the summer.
Alioski leaving is one thing but leaving for Galatasaray is entirely another. One Leeds fan asked Athletic journalist Phil Hay if there was anything in the report from Milliyet.
Hay said, “There’s been no agreement with Leeds so far. And given that the club are thinking about left-backs for the summer, he’s got a big decision to make. Getting close to 30.”

Alioski almost certainly off
We’d see Alioski go with a heavy heart but Hay certainly gave us nothing to suggest that he won’t be leaving in the summer.
Putting aside the big elephant in the room – we’re going to address the seriousness of that in a future piece – all evidence points towards him leaving.
Back in January, Marcelo Bielsa said the ball was in Alioski’s court in terms of a new contract and that Leeds wanted him to stay. [Leeds Live]
Two months on and there’s been no progress and no agreement.
That says everything to us. We can’t blame Alioski from a footballing perspective.
He’s not first choice for a position that’s not his first choice. Leeds will be buying a new left-back in the summer.
As a free agent, he will get very favourable terms from a new club without a fee to pay – likely far better than Leeds can offer him.
He’s nearly 30 and this would be his last big contract. We think he’s on his way out.
He just needs to think very carefully about where he’s going to go to.
