Phil Hay delivers instant verdict after Leeds defeat to Forest, says what Bielsa 'needs' to do

In the latest example of the recent worrying collapse at Leeds United, Marcelo Bielsa’s side fell to Nottingham Forest on Saturday in a 2-0 defeat.

It seems clear after that dispiriting loss that something needs to change at Elland Road. Four defeats in the team’s last five Championship games says as much.

The Argentine needs to pull a rabbit out of a hat – and quickly – if he is to right the ship and steer the club to the Premier League promised land.

That’s something that looked a formality at one point, but the wolves are now at the door. The Whites are only holding off Fulham in third by goal difference.

While it’s not evident what exactly the problem is in Yorkshire at the moment, it is abundantly obvious that a solution needs to be found as soon as possible.

That is certainly the verdict of esteemed Athletic journalist Phil Hay, who delivered an instant verdict after the defeat.

“Said after QPR that Leeds were in trouble in terms of the top two,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.

“This doesn’t feel like it’s going to solve itself. Bielsa needs to inject something into the team – form, confidence. Hard to know how he does that.”

Unfortunately for Hay and for Leeds, you cannot simply inject form into a team. It has to come from somewhere.

We thought it might materialise once again after that rousing victory over Millwall, but two straight defeats since have dampened the spirit at the club.

The automatic promotion places are looking far from the foregone conclusion they once were. Fulham, Forest and Brentford are all breathing down Leeds’ neck.

Tuesday night’s clash with the latter has become absolutely monumental for this struggling Whites side.

In other Leeds United news, owner Andrea Radrizzani has shared what frustrates him about the club’s supporters.
