Phil Hay: Clubs, FIFA & countries can't find compromise to stop Raphinha issue
Leeds United winger Raphinha is facing a race against time to feature in the Premier League clash against Southampton.
The Brazilian is set to start his first game for Brazil this evening, with the Whites travelling to the south coast on Saturday.
Phil Hay has been questioned as to why FIFA allowed this game to be played so close to the next round of league fixtures – admitting no one wanted to compromise in the end.
Writing on his personal Twitter account going into this weekend, Hay shared why this conflict keeps happening.
“The fixture list is a massive mess,” he wrote. “No one wants to compromise.”
The fact that Brazil and Raphinha have a game scheduled for this evening into the early hours of tomorrow morning is a joke.
When the Premier League has as many as nine players in the Brazil squad, they knew that this would be a controversy waiting to happen.
Tite’s side are almost guaranteed to be at the World Cup, so is this game that important ahead of the Premier League return.
During this COVID-19 problem and the issues surrounding the last international break, FIFA are continuing to embarrass themselves.
Should Raphinha return in time, he will be able to play but as we get closer to the game, the less that looks possible right now.
Hay is spot on, this is a massive mess and it looks as though FIFA and the Premier League are doing nothing about it this time.
