Phil Hay: Barcelona interest has not resurfaced in Leeds United star Rodrigo amid exit reports
Phil Hay has insisted that Barcelona have not returned for Leeds United star Rodrigo amid reports linking him with an exit this month.
Spanish media have reported that the attacker has asked Marcelo Bielsa to leave Elland Road before the end of the January window.
Hay shared that Barcelona did make a loan move for Rodrigo in the summer, but that was turned down and hasn’t been revisited, yet.
Writing in his pre-match Q&A for The Athletic on Saturday, Hay shared the latest surrounding the future of the Spaniard.
“Barca looked at him very late in the last window (loan bid) but Leeds said no,” he shared.
“It doesn’t seem to have resurfaced yet but they clearly have, or had, an interest in him.”
Has Rodrigo looked like the type of player who is unhappy?
Injury will have frustrated him after he started the season well, but he came back and ran himself into the ground at West Ham last week.
The Spanish international was obviously rusty with his play, but he will get better as he gets more minutes under his belt.
Bielsa isn’t one to stand in the way of players if they want to leave, either, but there is no chance of this one being accepted by the likes of Andrea Radrizzani if bids were to come in.
Leeds need all the players they can get and with Patrick Bamford picking u another injury, Rodrigo is certainly needed.
