Phil Hay: Barcelona convinced Leeds United may cut losses with Rodrigo

Barcelona are reportedly convinced of Leeds United cutting their losses and cashing in on Spanish striker Rodrigo.

According to Phil Hay, the three-time Champions League winners have been watching the former Valencia man for a while and could look to sign him.

He has struggled to find a place in the first team since his arrival at Elland Road, although he has been featuring extensively under Jesse Marsch.

Hay wrote in his recent Athletic article, “It is not much of a secret that Barcelona have been watching Rodrigo for a while, convinced that at some stage Leeds might be persuaded to cut their losses.”

Must stay

Marsch looks like he wants to hand a greater role to Rodrigo in the team than Marcelo Bielsa did.

This would mean more minutes, more starts and a greater voice on the tactical structure of the team.

Ideally, it gives the Spaniard a good three months to decide whether or not he belongs at Elland Road.

Barcelona, who are looking to make signings to eschew a new era under Xavi may well have the door open for Rodrigo in the summer.

It remains to be seen what the future holds, but Rodrigo is an extremely versatile cog in the Leeds machine and should be given a chance to prove himself under Marsch.

In other Leeds United news, Steve McManaman claims that a Whites man has already lost the trust of fans and some players after what happened last week.
