Phil Hay: Backroom staff of Marcelo Bielsa follow him out of Leeds United

Phil Hay has shared that Marcelo Bielsa’s staff have followed him out of Leeds United after he was sacked on Sunday morning.

The Athletic journalist reported that the likes of Pablo Quiroga and Diego Flores have left the club, as well as numerous analysts.

Hay shares that Bielsa is set to hold one last meeting with the players on Monday before flying to Argentina, ending his stay in England.

Writing for The Athletic on Monday morning, Hay shared the latest on the staff around Bielsa at Thorp Arch.

“Others from the backroom staff joined Bielsa out of the door, including assistants Pablo Quiroga and Diego Flores and fitness coach Benoit Delaval. Some of his analysts were expected to move on with them.

“He spent time with those closest to him on Saturday evening and was at Thorp Arch on Sunday to see some of the wider staff, visibly tearful as he tied up loose ends and pictured life away from a complex which he virtually lived in for almost four years.

“He is due to hold a last meeting with the club’s players today before preparing for a flight to Argentina, the final leg in one of his biggest adventures.”

The End.

It just simply wasn’t meant to end like this.

We all became as attached to the staff as we did Bielsa, with all of his team simply as loyal as anyone could imagine.

The hours of analysis was down to them, watching Leeds over 50 times before accepting the role, which would have been partly down to them.

Now, we start from square one yet again and it looks as though it will be Jesse Marsch building his own team to bring across to West Yorkshire.

We have to get behind him and his team, though, with this relegation battle an unfortunate turn of events not helped by injuries or lack of transfer activity.
