Pep Guardiola: Leeds United were spectacular under Marcelo Bielsa
Pep Guardiola shares that he feels sorry for Marcelo Bielsa after the Argentine parted ways with Leeds United.
After a week that saw them suffer heavy defeats against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, his time at the club became untenable.
Guardiola, who has credited Bielsa for shaping his managerial career, was in awe of him ahead of the Manchester City v Peterborough game in the FA Cup.
He said on Sky Sports, via Football Daily, “I’m so sorry for him. His legacy is there.
“I’m pretty sure in the Leeds city and the players, his influence is massive.
“Unfortunately managers are subject to results – which lately were not good.
“In these three to four seasons, his team was spectacular to watch and of course, I wish him all the best in the future.”
Respect
Guardiola is the best manager in world football today and it means a lot coming from him.
The Argentine won the tactical battle against him on two occasions last season – which surely would’ve left the Spaniard in awe of his former mentor.

Obviously, Guardiola has achieved an incredible career since then but the game will always have space for poets like Bielsa.
He deserves a break from the game as he would’ve been taxed at Elland Road.
It was his longest ever stint at a football club and it was one that will be remembered by fans for years to come.
We all hoped that it would never have to end this way.
