Paul Scholes reacts to brand new Patrick Bamford claim at Leeds United

Leeds United star Patrick Bamford endured a torrid campaign this season.

The Whites’ ace made 17 appearances in the Championship and failed to notch a single goal contribution as Daniel Farke‘s side secured promotion.

The 31-year-old has previous experience in the Premier League but there are huge question marks over his Elland Road future.

Scholes reacts to what he has heard about Leeds star Bamford

Bamford could leave Leeds this summer, with Wrexham and Ipswich linked with moves for the veteran forward.

His future is up in the air after a truly dismal season, where he struggled to even stay fit, never mind get on the scoresheet.

Discussing the Englishman’s future on The Overlap (3 June), Kaiser Chiefs guitarist Simon Rix reminisced about the Peacocks ace’s previous in the top-flight.

He said: “When we did well in the Premier League season, Bamford got I think 17 goals, but actually it was his hold-up play and bringing other people in that was the thing that really got us up to, I think ninth.”

Paul Scholes replied: “He’s still there isn’t he?”

Rix responded: “Still there, doesn’t play much.”

To which Scholes riposted, saying: “He can’t stay fit can he.”

Rix revealed some insight, saying: “He is trying though, I actually saw him the other day and he is already training.”

Bamford could still play a role at Leeds

While talk of an LS11 exit is rife for the one-cap England star, he could be kept around as an experienced player in the top division.

Despite his injury concerns and a lack of contributions, his mentality and leadership could be a vital asset for the Whites.

He may have to take a pay cut if he is to stay, as his £30,000-a-week wage is reportedly set to return to £70,000 after promotion was secured.

Farke and Paraag Marathe need to make the right decisions this summer in terms of transfers, with an attacking transfer or two on the cards, but Bamford could help the new additions settle in and teach them some tricks of the trade to thrive.

The German will have to weigh up whether he can afford to lose the veteran’s experience, with uncertainty over whether Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph can make the step-up to the elite level.

The Peacocks will almost certainly bring in a new striker to lead the line, but Bamford is still a valuable figure and letting a fan favourite go may leave a sour taste, even if it is probably the right time for him to depart.
