Paul Merson says 'no chance' Leeds get relegated this season
Paul Merson says there is ‘no chance’ Leeds United get relegated from the Premier League this season, despite their poor form so far.
Leeds currently sit in 16th place in the Premier League table with just 16 points from 18 games so far this season, five points above the relegation zone.
Manager Marcelo Bielsa is under severe pressure and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, it’s possible that he doesn’t make it that far.
Merson was speaking on Sky Sports when he revealed that he thinks there is ‘no chance’ of the Elland Road side getting relegated.
“I don’t see them going down,” he said. “No chance, they have key personnel returning from injury fairly soon, it’ll be down to them to turn this around.”
One thing that’s for sure is that Leeds’ performances will certainly improve when they start to get their first-team regulars fit again.
The Whites have had a number of injuries across the entire season and in their most recent defeat to Arsenal they had a substitutes bench made up exclusively of Under-23’s players.
Improvements will come as their quality raises and fans will likely feel the same way as Merson that they will survive.
They need to be aware that relegation is a possibility though, especially if they keep getting thumped in the same way they have been recently.
It won’t get any easier around the corner though, with Liverpool to come on Boxing Day and avoiding another heavy defeat has to be critical.
