Danny Murphy blasts Leeds performances under Marcelo Bielsa

talkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy has blasted the performances of Leeds United in recent weeks as a ‘shambles’ and ‘tactically naive’.

Leeds have been lost their last three games in a row, conceding 14 goals in the process and earning just one win in their last eight Premier League fixtures.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa has come under severe pressure following the results, with Leeds sitting just outside the relegation zone having played more games than their closest rivals.

While speaking on talkSPORT, Danny Murphy has blasted the tactical performances of the team, brandishing them as a ‘shambles’ and ‘naive’ following their most recent defeat.

“When you lose the bulk of your best players, you’re always going to struggle,” he said. “Tactically it was a shambles and it was naive.

“There is an argument to suggest that there should’ve been some adaptation from Bielsa with the players he’s got available.

“If you’re going to play a man-to-man system where you need real physicality and an understanding of what you’re going, you need your best players fit.”

Murphy also praised the Leeds fans for sticking behind their manager despite the bad run, describing the support he has received as ‘phenomenal’.

“The support for him after the game was phenomenal In the last couple of games, he has become unstuck against two very good teams where they have tried to play the same way with young lads and players who aren’t capable of doing it. It was chaotic and it was shambolic for two games.

“But he’s not going to change the way they play and that’s why they love him.”

Best around

The Elland Road faithful have certainly made their presence felt this season, with the club back in the Premier League.

Their support has been immense throughout a poor campaign, with the atmosphere always rocking despite results not living up to expectations.

Leeds’ great form last year obviously came without fans in the stadiums so it’s great to finally have the support back in the stands.

Bielsa needs all the support he can get as Leeds fight relegation, but it’s nice to see the fans getting the credit they deserve even when the team are so poor on the pitch.
