Paul Merson predicts scoreline of Leeds United vs Southampton
Leeds United travel to Southampton on Saturday when Premier League action resumes after the international break.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side finally picked up their first win of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Watford last time out, but making it back-to-back victories will not be easy.
Paul Merson does not see any of them winning at St. Mary’s, predicting a stalemate during his preview with Sportskeeda.
He said: “These are two struggling teams, but I think it will be a good game of Premier League football.
“Leeds United got a really good result against Watford before the international break, but Southampton are in desperate need of points and would’ve highlighted this game earlier in the season to get some points.
“I like watching both these teams and looking at how they’ve played in recent weeks, I’m predicting an exciting 2-2 draw.”
Only two points separate 16th-placed Leeds from 17th-placed Southampton, and both teams will fancy their chances of outsmarting the other at the weekend.
The hosts will hope their fans can spur them to a much-needed win, but Marcelo Bielsa’s men have a habit of surprising their opponents given how unpredictable they can be.
Patrick Bamford remains out, and it remains to be seen whether Raphinha will make it back on time from international duty to make the matchday squad.
Kalvin Phillips has also not been passed fully fit for the clash, and being without their key players could hurt Leeds’ chances.
Both sides will get their opportunities given their attacking styles, and whoever converts the most goalscoring chances will take all three points.
A win for Leeds will come in very much handy, and the players given chances to impress in the absence of the regular starters will be very keen to make the most of the opportunity.
