Andy Goldstein suggests Newcastle could make move for Kalvin Phillips

Newcastle United new owners could target Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips going forward, according to talkSPORT presenter Andy Goldstein.

The Magpies have been taken over by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund – a consortium worth £320billion [The Telegraph] – and they are set to spend big in subsequent transfer windows.

Newcastle are by far the wealthiest owners in the world, and they can splash as much as £190million in January without breaking Financial Fair Play rules [The Telegraph].

Goldstein reckons Phillips could very much be in their plans as they look to ring major squad changes at St. James’ Park.

He said on talkSPORT (as shared on their official Twitter account): “I’ve written a list of players, I think they could go for. Kalvin Phillips.

“I know he said recently that he’s never going to leave Leeds United.

“What a great opportunity.”

Really?

Would Phillips be keen to leave Leeds for the new Premier League moneybags?

Every Whites fan will reply with an emphatic no, but Newcastle are not Manchester United.

If the England international midfielder ever decides to join one of Leeds’ top-flight rivals, the Toons cannot be ruled out.

Should they get a top manager and spend their money well, they could be regular top-four challengers in the not-too-distant future.

While Andrea Radrizzani has plans to turn Marcelo Bielsa’s side into European regulars and a force to reckon with, he does not have the funds the Saudis boast of.

Newcastle could become as attractive as Manchester City very soon, and nobody should be exempted from potentially joining them.

At the moment, Phillips dreams of ending his career at Leeds, but the club need to match his ambitions.

If they fail to, an exit should not be ruled out, and the Magpies will fancy their chances of signing anyone.

In other Leeds United news, Watford ace was blown away by thing of beauty he noticed before Whites clash.
