Paul Merson predicts result of Leeds United Premier League clash v Newcastle United
Paul Merson has made his prediction for the upcoming Premier League clash between Leeds United and Newcastle United at Elland Road.
Sam Allardyce fell to defeat in his first game as boss to Manchester City, which saw the Whites drop into the bottom three with three games remaining.
And speaking to SportsKeeda (11 May), Merson admitted that he can’t see how Leeds avoid the drop with Allardyce given such little time to turn things around and such tough fixtures.
“This is a game that could have major ramifications in the top-four race and the relegation battle,” he said.
“If Newcastle United win this, they’d only need one more win to secure a top-four spot. It’s a massive football game.
“Leeds need to win this match. But I can’t see anything but a Newcastle United win here.
“Sam Allardyce needed more time. They also have Newcastle, West Ham and Tottenham and none of them are favorable fixtures for Leeds United.
“I’m going to go with Newcastle United here. I don’t see Newcastle not qualifying for the Champions League. Despite a rather tough set of fixtures coming up, they should be able to make it to the promised land. Leeds 0-2 Newcastle.”
Rough
Leeds showed an improved level of performance against Man City last week but were still never even remotely close to getting a result in all honesty.
Newcastle have been flying recently but the defeat to Arsenal showed that they can be got at and Allardyce will be keen to get one over one of his former sides too.
Elland Road has been a fortress for travelling teams in the past and while it has lost that touch in recent games, this is a chance for the fans to get back to making themselves a nuisance and having an effect on the game.
Allardyce will surely be looking to use them as a 12th man by getting the players to be aggressive and rowdy and get in the faces of the Newcastle players, who could well be feeling the pressure as they push for Champions League football.
This could well be the last chance saloon for Leeds to get out of trouble, so a win would be absolutely huge. Lets prove Merson wrong and get all three points.
In other Leeds news, a journalist has shared if two Leeds players will be available for the run-in after an official announcement on Thursday.
