Paul Merson: Leeds United will be safe with win over Newcastle

Paul Merson has insisted that Leeds United will be safe if they beat Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Whites would make it three wins-in-arow with three points over the Magpies, something that could put them 11 points clear of the drop.

Jeff Stelling agreed with Merson, with Leeds currently in their best form of the season as we enter the New Year.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (22/01 12:05 pm), Merson backed the Whites at Elland Road.

“If Leeds win today, you would say goodnight and relax,” he said.

“They’ve now won two in a row.”

Make it three.

Leeds are slowly returning to their best that we saw far more often in the Premier League last season.

Marcelo Bielsa is starting to welcome back some of his senior stars but is still heavily relying on younger players on the bench.

That hasn’t changed things though, with the win over West Ham the reward that everyone involved with the club has deserved.

Merson has backed the Whites for the majority of the season, and it was nice to see him point them out live on air when asked about others.

Everyone will be expecting three points today, and Elland Road will be rocking if that is achieved ahead of this small winter break.

There have been nerves this season, but with Bielsa in charge, there has always been hope as well as that.
