Paul Merson and Jeff Stelling express concern over Leeds United December fixtures
Paul Merson delivered his reaction on Sky Sports after Jeff Stelling read out some of the teams Leeds United will face in December.
Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday [27/11/21] before the Whites drew 0-0 at Brighton, Merson shared his fears over the current results.
“The problem is they’re fourth-bottom and playing well in certain games as well, it’s not like they’re having a nightmare and that’s the worrying thing, they’re playing well in games and they’re not seeing it through,” he said.
Stelling replied: “And they’ve got Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool in December, which is pretty tough.
Merson: “Wow, wow.”
Points to be gained
Stelling named four rich Premier League clubs that Leeds will face next month, but there are still two games to be played before that run.
The next two games are absolutely huge for the Whites as they welcome Crystal Palace (November 30) and Brentford (December 5) to Elland Road, fixtures they will hope to pick up maximum points from.
Both sides are in the bottom half of the league and Marcelo Bielsa’s side could end up above the duo in the next 10 days with successive victories.
Even then, the next four games are not a write-off.
A trip to Chelsea is perhaps the most difficult of them all, but Leeds beat Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium last season with ten men for a good portion of it.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are nothing to be feared despite some strong showings recently.
Leeds end the run with a trip to Anfield, a venue they narrowly lost 4-3 at last season.
It’s not all doom and gloom for the Whites.
