Leeds United set to launch January bid for Nantes midfielder Andrei Girotto
Leeds United are “expected” to submit a £4.2million bid to Ligue 1 side Nantes for Andrei Girotto, according to French news outlet Homme du Match.
It is claimed that the Whites will make their move in January for the 29-year-old midfielder who was eyed by the West Yorkshire club last summer.
The Brazilian’s is said to be “perfectly” suited to the Premier League, and he can also play in defence, as he has done for French side Nantes this season.
Girotto is certainly someone who is willing to put himself about on the pitch – he is the only player to accrue more Ligue 1 red cards than Neymar since the PSG’s superstar’s debut in August 2017 (five compared to Neymar’s four, via beIN SPORTS).
That’s not the most flattering statistic, but it does highlight the kind of player that he is, as opposed to Neymar.
The Nantes man is tough in the tackle and someone willing to put his body on the line in a variety of positions.
If Marcelo Bielsa can tame his temperament, then he could prove a very valuable player for the Whites, if they can sign him.
At 29, it’s not a signing that will set pulses racing at Elland Road.
But, with concerns that the Whites will not splash out on expensive signings in January, Girotto could represent a bargain, short-term fix to the Whites’ woes in midfield and defence.
In other Leeds United news, this ex-La Liga boss has rejected a managerless club and could plot a move to the Whites in 2022.
