Patrick Vieira rejected Leeds United manager job after being sacked by Crystal Palace

Patrick Vieira rejected an approach from Leeds United to become their new manager after he was sacked by Crystal Palace in March, according to L’Equipe.

The Whites are on their fourth manager of the season having started with Jesse Marsch and then appointing Michael Skubala, Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce at different points of the campaign.

But none of those were first-choice at the time of their arrivals and the club made an offer to a long-time target in Vieira after he was sacked by Palace in March, but the former France midfielder rejected the move as he wasn’t ready to step straight back into management.

“Since his dismissal on March 17, Patrick Vieira has received three proposals from Premier League clubs that were in difficulty (Leeds, Everton, Leicester),” Foot Mercato wrote (25 May).

“According to L’Equipe, he turned down these offers as he did not want to join a struggling club and wanted to give himself time.”

There’s no guarantees that Vieira would have been any better or any worse than what we’ve already seen, but it’s hard to think that anyone could have done a worse job than Gracia did.

Vieira was sacked by Palace because they were terrified of their status, but realistically it was hard to see them ever going down because the run of fixtures they had was absolutely mental.

Previously he had taken over a team that was struggling for confidence and playing an old school style of football and transformed them, so his pedigree is fairly good.

Ultimately now Big Sam is the man in charge and with one game remaining to save our Premier League future, we can’t be focused on could’ve beens and should’ve beens.

Everyone needs to get behind the team and Allardyce in the hope we can pull off something magical and then we can have another look in the summer at what manager should be in charge for the new season.
