Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford has revealed a Thorp Arch altercation with Marcelo Bielsa which left the manager needing physio treatment.
The talisman was completing a crossing drill in training, before accidentally striking the ball in the face of El Loco who was watching on.
Bamford admitted that Bielsa wasn’t best pleased, and that is the origin behind his wonky glasses in the past few weeks in the Premier League.
Speaking on the That Peter Crouch Podcast, Bamford detailed the altercation which appears to have been left in the immediate past.
“He always positions himself in an awkward place,” he said.
“The ball has come in and I’ve connected with it so sweetly on my left foot, it’s near the top corner, and he’s stood right inside the goal.
“I’ve not seen him and I’ve hit the ball, it’s come flush straight off the bridge of his nose. All I’ve seen is his glasses fly off and him hold his nose. He’s walked off holding his nose.
“He’s walked past us five minutes later to go see the physio.”
We are sure that Bamford will have wanted the ground to swallow him up, and that time will have slowed down when the ball was heading towards Bielsa.
Thankfully, the Whites striker is a huge favourite of El Loco, who has had massive trust in him for the past three years; we all remember that hug at Thorp Arch.
Bamford hasn’t scored in a few weeks during this incredible run of form for the Whites, and who knows? Has this incident given him some bad luck? We’re joking, of course, but a goal would be welcome soon.
Bielsa isn’t one to dwell on the past, as he has proven with certain results during his tenure, success or failure, and he will certainly be the same with this.
Rather you than us, Patrick.
