Patrick Bamford could push for Leeds United exit amid ‘Difficult’ transfer verdict

Adam Pope believes it’s “difficult” to see who could afford Patrick Bamford if he were to leave Leeds United in January.

The striker has hardly been given a chance to play for Daniel Farke’s men this season with Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph occupying the number nine role within the Whites’ squad.

A number of teams have already been linked with an interest in the Englishman but nothing concrete has surfaced just yet [LeedsUnited.news, 23 December].

Writing for the BBC Sport website (28 December), BBC Leeds journalist Pope thinks the out-of-favour striker could push for a winter exit but might find it difficult to find a new home due to his wage demands.

“Patrick Bamford’s bench-warming makes you wonder if he will push for a move with 18 months left on his deal,” he wrote.

“The one-cap England international is on a big contract and coupled with an injury riddled past few seasons it is difficult to see who could afford the 31-year-old”.

Leeds United should try and find a suitor for Patrick Bamford

Last season, Bamford was one of the Whites’ key players and when he was injured towards the end of the campaign, he was a massive miss.

This term, however, things have been the polar opposite and even though he’s been ready and raring to go for over a month now, Daniel Farke has still opted to go for Piroe and Joseph over the Englishman.

At the moment, everything is up in the air but as Pope touched upon, if he’s not likely to get much game-time in West Yorkshire, it’s not hard to understand why he may want to move to pastures new as soon as possible.

Although the Englishman has become synonymous with Leeds during his Elland Road stint, it feels like his time leading their attacking line is coming to an end, especially with the potential that Joseph has shown since the start of the campaign.

Only time will tell what the future holds of course but, on paper, it feels like the best move for both parties would be to part ways and move on.
