Patrick Bamford backs Cody Drameh, Sam Greenwood, Lewis Bate for senior Leeds United appearances
Patrick Bamford has tipped Cody Drameh, Sam Greenwood and Lewis Bate to all make a mark in the Leeds United first-team soon.
Leeds’ Under-23s squad has a wealth of talented young players and those three are among the best.
They all combined for England’s Under-20s last week when Bate, 18, scored in a 1-1 draw versus Italy’s Under-20s.
Bamford feels that midfielder Bate, as well as 19-year-olds Drameh and Greenwood, will soon be in consideration for the senior side.
“My moment of the week was England’s Under-20s, the equaliser against Italy. It was made in Leeds,” said Bamford on the Official Leeds United Podcast.
“We had Cody Drameh on the right, crossed it in, little flick from Sam Greenwood and then Lewis Bate finishes in the bottom left.”
Bamford was then asked if Drameh, Greenwood and Bate are close to getting into Marcelo Bielsa’s senior squad and he said: “Yeah, they’re close.
“I think what the gaffer has shown is that anyone who earns their chance will be given it.
“People who work hard will be given a chance. He’s not afraid to put the young ones in if they deserve it.”
We really hope so
We’ve known about Greenwood and Drameh for a while now with Greenwood already earning his senior debut for the Whites last season.
However, Bate is someone who we’re really excited about.
The midfielder arrived from Chelsea on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window, costing Leeds £1.5million [Daily Mail].
It’s a large sum of money for a player who is yet to earn a senior appearance in his career but clearly, Victor Orta and his scouts were excited by the England youth international.
Since his move to Elland Road, Bate has impressed for Mark Jackson’s Under-23s and plenty of fans have been calling for him to get a senior call-up this season.
Bielsa doesn’t have the strongest of central midfield options to choose from so why not hand the teenage talent a chance to shine?
As well as those three, we hope we get to see more of Joe Gelhardt and Crysencio Summerville as the season goes on.
