Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling close to Leeds United return, post-Tottenham Rodrigo and Raphinha update shared

Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling are closing in on a return to Leeds United action, according to LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross.

Leeds were without the quartet on Sunday evening as they lost 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Sergio Reguilon cancelling out Dan James’ first-half opener.

“There is hopefully light at the end of the tunnel for United,” Cross wrote after on the LeedsLive website. “Ayling and Bamford are thought to be making good progress and not far away, while Raphinha and Rodrigo’s issues are thought to be minor.”

Marcelo Bielsa has seen his squad absolutely decimated by injuries this season, and that has naturally hit them hard.

He has had to call on a host of young players to fill in for his senior stars, and while they have shown promise, they have not been able to get the results for ‘El Loco’.

Ayling and Bamford have been out since the 1-1 draw at Newcastle United on September 17, leaving Bielsa shorn of the services of two of his most experienced players and leaders in the dressing room.

Rodrigo and Raphinha, meanwhile, are the only Leeds players to have scored more than one Premier League goal this season, leaving the Whites lacking potency at the top end of the pitch against Spurs.

The good news is both sound like they could return for Saturday’s trip to Brighton, while fans will hope Bamford and Ayling can return for the festive fixture list.

In other Leeds United news, Jeff Stelling was left stunned by this Whites player in his instant Twitter reaction to Sunday’s 2-1 loss at Tottenham.
