Leeds United are preparing to face Liverpool in their opening game of the new Premier League campaign.
Reinforcements are arriving – Rodrigo and Robin Koch have been signed for fees of around £27m and £13m respectively.
And Leeds aren’t done yet, with reports still linking the club with more attacking signings.
Liverpool Echo journalist Matt Addison claims one could deliver a sizeable windfall to the Premier Lague champions.
Leeds have been linked with a move for 27-year-old Lazio midfielder and former Liverpool player Luis Alberto [Il Messaggero].
Talking on the latest episode of the Blood Red podcast, Addison said, “Luis Alberto is a player who didn’t impress fans at Anfield.
“But he has since been transformed into the ultimate attacking midfielder. He left for £4.3m but crucially Liverpool do have a 30% sell-on fee, so whatever move he makes next Liverpool will make 30%.
“Given how impressive he’s been, one of the best in Serie A in that position, given that Leeds are linked… His release clause is £87m, there’s no chance of anyone paying that… the suggestion is that Lazio want £67m, I don’t think there’s much chance of anyone paying that.
“But, if anyone can persuade Lazio to take a more realistic fee then potentially Liverpool could be set to gain. You look at that £87m release clause, more than £20m would be added to Liverpool’s kitty.”
Liverpool can but dream
Liverpool might be dreaming of taking three points from Leeds on the first day of the season, but we can say there’s no chance of them making a £20m windfall from the Whites.
Il Messaggero actually describes Alberto as “untouchable” at Lazio and we don’t think Leeds would get anywhere near paying what Lazio want for their attacker.
Much more likely is a deal for another Serie A player – Udinese’s Rodrigo de Paul.
He’s an all-rounder who offers as much in defence as he does in attack.
StatsPerform’s Sacha Pisani posted De Paul’s 19/20 numbers and it’s easy to see why Marcelo Bielsa is interested.
De Paul created 77 chances with a passing accuracy of 81.9%. He also won 31 tackles and 56% of his duels.
Would be great to see De Paul in the PL.
His Serie A numbers in 19-20:
Games – 34

Assists – 6
Chances created – 77
Passing accuracy – 81.9%
Passes into box (inc crosses) – 306
Dribbles completed – 62
Duel success – 56%

Football Insider has reported that personal terms have been agreed with Rodrigo de Paul and he would be another massive addition to the team.
Liverpool will have to look elsewhere for a big financial windfall.
