We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United…
Paul Robinson has hailed Rodrigo as a “very, very good signing” for Leeds and isn’t concerned about his recent injury issues.
Robinson is sure that Leeds will have done their due diligence properly and that Rodrigo will be a “fantastic addition” to the squad.
However, he’s not as sure that Rodrigo is the number nine that Leeds need and questioned whether he would score 20+ goals.
Talking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Robinson said, “He’s a top player and a very, very good signing but I still don’t think he’s the 20+ scorer that I think Leeds need.
“Listen, he’s got 50 goals in 200-odd games, and that’s not going to convert into 20 goals in his first season in the Premier League.
“Leeds need someone who can put the chances away and they’re likely to have five per game in the top-flight.”
Talking about the recurring knee injury that kept Rodrigo out of the last five games of last season, Robinson said, “I don’t think it’s a gamble.
“Leeds will have done their due diligence on the player, he’s a Spain international. He will be a fantastic addition wherever he plays.
“I just don’t think he’s the number nine that Leeds need.”
Only four players scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season, with even Mo Salah missing out on the exclusive club.
Sheffield United finished ninth in the league with a top scorer who only had six goals.
This could be the model that Leeds are looking to and we do expect Rodrigo to play in the number nine position when he’s match fit.
