Ola Aina being pushed out of Torino amid Leeds United transfer link
Torino defender Ola Aina could leave the Italian club in the January window for a small fee, amid interest from Leeds United, according to a report from Tuttosport.
Leeds were heavily interested in signing the 26-year-old defender in the summer window, with Gazzetta Dello Sport reporting on 9 June (page 14) that the Whites made an approach through international intermediaries to enquire about the player’s situation.
Aina was keen to leave the club [GDS, 18 June] as well but the deal didn’t materialize. The Whites could be interested again in signing him if he is sold at a bargain price.
His form has been inconsistent this season, and Torino are looking to cash in on the defender, even if it is for a small sum.
Leeds are expected to delve into the transfer market in January, with Jesse Marsch needing to bolster the midfield and the forward options.
The defence is more or less sorted, but Aina could be an interesting option. The Whites have depth in their central defence areas, but they could be looking to sign a new left-back.
Junior Firpo has proved to be a major disappointment for the club, while it’s unknown when Stuart Dallas can return to action. Pascal Struijk has done incredibly well at left-back, but it is not his natural position.
Aina is a versatile defender, who can play on both flanks. He can operate as a right-back as also as a left-back, and probably that’s why Leeds still retain an interest in him.
The Nigerian can also play in the midfield if needed. Considering that fact, he could be sold on the cheap, there could be a window of opportunity for the Whites to sign him in January.
