Noel Whelan reacts to Dan James' goal against Spurs

Leeds United lost to Tottenham on Sunday despite opening the scoring, with the hosts bagging two second-half goals to secure a victory.

Dan James opened his account for the Whites, getting on the end of a beautiful cross from Jack Harrison, and Noel Whelan loved what he saw from the summer signing.

The Leeds hero took to his personal Twitter account to react to the Welshman’s goal during the half-time break.

Whelan said: “Fantastic first half by Leeds. Dominated. Looked great on the ball and gets a well-deserved goal.

“The first of many for James and all I can hear in the capital are Leeds fans. As always, we take over your grounds all across the country. MOT.”

It took the Wales international 11 games across all competitions to finally get on the scoresheet for Leeds, and he would have been gutted to see that it did not count for much in the end.

Nevertheless, the goal will give James a lot of belief going forward, and Marcelo Bielsa will be hoping he starts finding the back of the net regularly henceforth.

Leeds needed two attempts to finally get a deal for the former Manchester United forward over the line, and he needs to prove that he is worth the hassle.

James has not hit the ground running at Elland Road as many would have expected, but his first goal could get him firing on all cylinders.

The Whites are averaging a goal per Premier League game and will need to do better as relegation is starting to stare at them.

They travel to Brighton next before some tough run of fixtures, and while their chances appear slim on paper, they could cause some upsets against the bigwigs if James and his teammates deliver.

In other Leeds United news, a major update on Whites January bid to sign attacker has been provided, with pen-to-paper imminent.
