Noel Whelan has labelled the challenge on Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts by Sheffield United defender George Baldock as "horrific."

The Blades right-back left the field concussed after the challenge, after going in double-footed on the Welsh international and escaping with no card.

Whelan insisted that the only right decision would have been to send Baldock off, with his attempt to win the ball nothing less than "disgusting."

Speaking on BBC West Yorkshire Sport, Whelan couldn't believe his eyes when the technology didn't step in to help the officials.

"It was horrific," he said.

"It's not just the fact that it led to a goalscoring opportunity, that shouldn't take away from the fact that it was a horrendous challenge.

"If that's in the centre-circle, that gets looked at by the VAR. Only one decision is possible for that challenge, it's a red. It's disgusting."

Spot on.

24 hours later and we still can't get our heads around this one.

We can understand the officials missing the one in the heat of the moment, especially when playing advantage which handed Jack Harrison the chance he should have scored from.

Having said that, how has VAR not seen and brought it back?

It was a reckless challenge and Baldock was never in control of his body, Thiago Silva was handed a second yellow for something far worst earlier in the day against West Brom.

The consistency is embarrassing in the Premier League, and that is just as "horrific" as any challenge on show in every game each week; it has to change.
