Noa Lang injury news throws 'spanner in the works' of Leeds United transfer

According to Voetbalnieuws, Leeds United face a stumbling block in their pursuit of Noa Lang with the Club Brugge winger suffering an injury this week.

Leeds United have been long-term admirers of Lang, with their interest in the 23-year-old winger dating back to 2021 when Marcelo Bielsa tried to lure him to Elland Road. [The Mirror]

A move never came to fruition, but Lang reappeared on Leeds’ radar for January, with Jesse Marsch wanting to add some attacking firepower to his squad. Dean Jones told GiveMeSport earlier this month that he expects the Whites to “push on” with trying to sign the Dutchman in January.

However, Leeds now face a stumbling block in their Lang pursuit after he came off injured during Club Brugge’s clash against STVV this week. As reported by Voetbalnieuws: “An injury would throw a spanner in the works.”

Lang was also unable to push for a transfer in the summer due to an injury he suffered at the end of the season, and his move to Elland Road is now under risk of falling through once again.

Disaster

Leeds can add this to the handful of disastrous transfer sagas this season. After narrowly missing out on Cody Gakpo on the final day of the season, the Whites then had to deal with the Bamba Dieng transfer falling through and Marsch ended up without any of his preferred targets in the summer.

Jones suggested that Leeds will push for Lang in January because he believed the club wanted to avoid another Gakpo situation, but it seems that injuries have gotten in the way of that being possible.

With just days to go until the January window opens, Victor Orta and Marsch will now have to assess Lang’s situation and judge whether he’s still worth chasing next month.

Ending the window without a new attacker coming through the doors of Elland Road would be a disaster and could be the difference between relegation and survival this season.

Whether it’s Lang or someone else, Leeds need to make sure Marsch has more depth and options up front for the second half of the season.

In other Leeds United news, Mateusz Klich was not spotted at the Monaco friendly this week amid rumours of a transfer
