Mateusz Klich nowhere to be seen at Leeds United friendly amid advanced exit talks
Mateusz Klich was left out of the Leeds United squad for their friendly against Monaco as speculation grows over his Elland Road future.
Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross revealed (Twitter, 20 December) that Klich and Adam Forshaw were absent from the Whites’ open training session ahead of the fixture against the Ligue 1 side.
However, Forshaw started the match against Monaco, with the Poland international nowhere to be seen. The 32-year-old is reportedly closing in on a move to DC United, with Wayne Rooney eager to add the attacking midfielder to his squad (MLS Soccer, 14 December).
With January fast approaching it’s now looking more and more likely that Klich’s last appearance was the friendly win over Real Sociedad. His Monaco omission could well be a clear sign that both parties don’t want to risk the deal collapsing due to an injury.
If he is set to leave the club, there’s no point jeopardising the deal unless he’s a shoo-in to play a part against Manchester City in Leeds’ next Premier League fixture. It will be a sad day when the 32-year-old does depart, after all he has achieved during his time at Elland Road.
It would be nice if Jesse Marsch could give the midfielder one last outing so he can get the ovation he deserves from the fans. However, it now seems unlikely with Klich set to depart Elland Road in the coming weeks. Tyler Adams and Marc Roca have been the American’s go-to midfield pairing, but Marsch could now look for another player to add slightly more depth in the centre of the park.
