Newcastle want to sign Leeds United defender Robin Koch in the summer transfer window

Newcastle are reportedly keen on signing Leeds United defender Robin Koch in the summer transfer window as they’re eyeing a centre-back.

According to German media outlet Sport [6 March], the Saudi Arabia-owned club are keen on bringing the Germany international to St James’ Park.

It’s understood that Koch could leave Elland Road in the summer amid the Whites being in a relegation battle for the second season in a row.

Hinges on survival?

All bets will be off for Leeds if they end up going down and whatever little power they have to deny players a move, will go away.

Koch is one of the first names on the team sheet and it can be argued that he’s the best defender at the club along with Pascal Struijk.

We’re not surprised that Newcastle are keen on him as he would offer a good option to them and could perhaps be Sven Botman’s centre-back partner next season.

Hopefully, Leeds can get him to sign a new deal before the end of the season and if that means hiking his wages slightly, then so be it.

It is important that the Whites bring in a new defender in the summer, but they cannot afford to lose out on their first-team players.

An interesting few weeks await the Whites and hopefully, the German is at Elland Road come September 2023.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
