MOT View: Orta should scrap reported 25y/o pursuit, Leeds already tracking way better option
With the season finally restarting on Saturday, Leeds United transfer rumours have started to gather pace for the summer.
The Daily Mail has reported that the Whites have joined QPR and Brentford in tracking Nurnberg midfielder Patrick Erras.
The 25-year-old is set to become available on a free transfer after rejecting a new deal at the German second-tier club.
When looking at Marcelo Bielsa’s midfield options, he will be relatively happy with what he’s got at Elland Road.
Kalvin Phillips, Mateusz Klich and Pablo Hernandez have all cemented their spots, and with Adam Forshaw returning soon, he has strength to bring off the bench next season.
With promotion to the Premier League only nine games away, Leeds could be looking at bigger names to bring to the club.
Take Benfica’s Florentino Luis for example, with ESPN reporting that the Whites are tracking the young sensation alongside Manchester United.
Erras would be available for free, which is something that could make sense given the financial strain that the Coronavirus has put on clubs.
Many would immediately jump to the conclusion that Luis would cost a huge sum of money, but Benfica would be happy to loan the youngster out with an option-to-buy, something that would suit Andrea Radrizzani perfectly [ESPN].
The 20-year-old has Champions League experience and would suit Bielsa’s fast-playing style much better than Erras.
To play for Bielsa, you must be comfortable on the ball. Erras loses possession 7.17 times per-game according to WyScout, and only completes 0.15 progressive dribbles per 90 minutes, meaning he only darts forward once every seven games.
Luis completes more than 14 passes in each outing and would be much more suited to Leeds than Erras, who would simply be occupying a spot on the bench.
