Reports have surfaced this week that Leeds United have been offered the chance to sign Barcelona sensation Riqui Puig.
Fichajes have reported that Puig’s agent has contacted the Whites, as well as RB Leipzig and AS Monaco over a loan move.
Barcelona are only interested in parting ways temporarily, with Puig wanting to force his way into Spain’s squad for the upcoming European Championships.
The latest update doesn’t look good though.
Fichajes have shared a further report that none of the three clubs approached have responded to the availability of the 21-year-old.
Should Leeds have been immediately interested, they surely would have responded this week to try and beat the competition to the midfield sensation.
Real Betis are now entering the race though, and Estadio Deportivo have claimed that they are ready to make an offer for Puig until the end of the season.
Leeds appear to be happy to let this one slide by, and it would be no surprise to see the playmaker remain in La Liga.
Leeds could have done with an extra midfielder in the past month.
Pablo Hernandez, Rodrigo and Jamie Shackleton have all been out with either injury or COVID-19 and were running low on options.
Those absences led to two massive defeats against Crystal Palace and Leicester, and thankfully, Rodrigo is back now.
Puig could have been the option that Marcelo Bielsa has been crying out for in midfield recently, although with players coming back, maybe El Loco has his mind set elsewhere.
January hasn’t been a market that the Whites usually exploit, and we don’t expect that to change this season, even with Premier League football.
