Midfield signing top of Leeds United's January to-do list
Leeds United may enter the January market for a midfielder as it remains top of their to-do list, according to LeedsLive.
The Whites have been linked with moves for central midfielders in the last three transfer windows, but have failed to get one over the line.
Should Leeds continue to languish close to the relegation zone by January, they may almost certainly push for signing a new midfielder.
Sign one regardless
This summer was not the best of windows for Victor Orta and Leeds and while Marcelo Bielsa is not one to dissent, he may not have been happy with the lack of activity.
There were links with Huddersfield Town’s Lewis O’Brien, but that transfer did not pan out and he recently put pen to paper to a new deal at the club.
Should Leeds want to sign him again in January, it’s going to be far more expensive than it would have a few months ago, so one could rule that out for the time being.
Even last summer, Rodrigo de Paul was heavily linked with a move to Elland Road, but Orta failed to get that one over the line and 12 months later he was poached by La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.
Bielsa cannot guarantee to have his first-choice midfielders fit for all 38 game weeks and he should not be forced to play players out of position, even if they’re managing to do a half-decent job there.
Midfield has been an area that’s needed strengthening for over a year and it still hasn’t been addressed.
Even if Leeds go on a run of form from now until the end of the year, plans must be put in place to get in a new midfielder before February.
