Michael Owen predicts outcome of Leeds United v Newcastle United

Leeds United will take on Newcastle United in the Premier League clash on Saturday (22 January), and it’s expected to be a cracking contest.

The Magpies have struggled badly this season but they are much stronger now having bolstered their squad this month with the signings of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.

Michael Owen feels that both teams are conceding goals freely, and predicts an entertaining 2-2 draw while writing on his column for Bet Victor.

Owen wrote: “That was a huge win for Leeds last weekend against West Ham. Jack Harrison took his goals superbly. It’s given Bielsa’s side a bit of breathing room above the drop and they’ll be hoping to build on it in the next couple of weeks.

“As for Newcastle, Eddie Howe must have been gutted to not hold on for all three points. It’s been a familiar story all season for Newcastle. I never worry about them scoring goals, but they don’t keep clean sheets. They’ve got the fewest clean sheets in the league, just one all season.

“I think there will be goals here, I don’t trust either to keep a clean sheet. I’m going for an entertaining 2-2 draw.”

Momentum

Leeds secured a massive win against West Ham in their last game.

The Whites won 3-2 away at West Ham and in the process secured a back-to-back win in the league.

It’s time for them to build strong momentum. Using the home advantage, they should be looking at another win and climb up the ladder.

Newcastle, who are fighting for survival, will also see this as an opportunity against a Leeds side that are vulnerable at the back.

It could be an open game on Saturday, which is good for spectacle.

If that’s the case, it could spell bad news for the Magpies. If they want to match Leeds toe-to-toe with an attacking display, Leeds can punish them as they are pretty ruthless in such situations.

With Raphinha playing some magical football, and other players like Jack Harrison and Pascal Struijk making strong contributions, Leeds should be upbeat about picking up all three points in their next game.
