Michael Owen gushes over Javi Gracia as Leeds United beat Southampton

Michael Owen has been impressed with Javi Gracia as he guided Leeds United to victory in his first game in charge.

The Whites beat their relegation rivals by a 1-0 scoreline to win their first league game since November.

Owen was impressed by the impact he’s had in such a short time on the club.

On the Premier League Productions’ post-match show, Owen said at 11:20 pm on 25 February, “This is going to be massive. It’s absolutely priceless to get off to a good start for a manager. I’m really pleased with him.”

Much needed

Leeds played with greater depth and the players looked like they had an idea what to do on and off the ball.

Gracia’s appointment may not have been one that excited the fanbase but it certainly was a much-needed one as Leeds were going nowhere under Michael Skubala.

Initially, it seemed that he could’ve stayed on until the end of the season, but performances exuded little confidence that he could actually get the job done at Elland Road.

Gracia achieved an 11th place finish under the Spaniard and he also saved them from relegation two seasons in a row.

He surely can achieve the same at Leeds and that too without compromising on the club’s style of football.

Leeds want someone to continue playing the Marcelo Bielsa way and if given the time, Gracia can do that.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
