Michael Owen drools over Leeds United winger Raphinha

Michael Owen has showered heaps of praise on Leeds United winger Raphinha for his performance against Burnley on Sunday.

The Brazilian was superb during the game as the Whites returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory at Elland Road.

In the first half, Raphinha made an outrageous attempt to score from a distance, and it just kissed the top of the bar.

Owen was thrilled by Raphinha’s skills and technique. Raphinha has been linked with a move away from the club, and the former Liverpool striker feels that he can walk into any side.

“Yes, he’s a player I absolutely love,” Owen said to PL productions (02 January).

“He has got that about him. He’s got that skill, the vision, technique is perfect, just skims the top of the crossbar. He is a player that can play for any team.”

In the absence of Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips, it’s Raphinha who has emerged as a key player for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Last season, he captivated the fans with his skills and trickery, but this term he has taken his game to a whole new level. The confidence is oozing from his game, every time he takes to the pitch.

The 25-year-old has scored eight goals and provided one assist in the Premier League thus far, but his contribution to the side goes beyond that.

He puts in a lot of defensive shifts, creates space for others with intelligent movements, and sets up opportunities with clever passes – Raphinha is a complete package.

Against Burnley, he nearly got an assist but Junior Firpo’s flicked effort was saved by the goalie. He could have got a goal to his name as well but could only manage side-netting with his right foot.

However, his courageous effort to score from distance was really impressive. It goes to show his level of confidence at the moment, and the required skill to execute such an attempt.
