Micah Richards appointment mooted at Leeds United as Alan Shearer speaks out

Micah Richards has been joked as a potential new appointment for Leeds United.

The 36-year-old grew up in the city and has an affinity for the Whites as a result having spent some time in their academy.

The former Manchester City star was caught up in celebrations following the Elland Road club’s Championship title win, and he has now been mooted for a role with the Premier League outfit.

Shearer makes Richards appointment claim at Leeds

Speculation surrounding Daniel Farke’s future was ended by Paraag Marathe on Sunday, when he declared that the German would be staying with the Yorkshire outfit.

However, that did not stop Alan Shearer from linking Richards with a job with his local team after the scenes following the 2-1 win over Plymouth.

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast (5 May), host Gary Lineker congratulated the ex-Aston Villa ace, saying: “Micah, you won the title in injury time, late wasn’t it, your Leeds mob.”

Richards responded by singing Marching On Together before Shearer joked that an announcement is coming.

The legendary striker said: “Official announcement tomorrow, Micah Richards, ambassador of Leeds United.”

Leeds can get business started after Farke confirmation

The most important thing for Leeds to sort out after winning promotion was Farke’s future, which looked uncertain amid concerns over his top-flight record.

The German won just six of his 49 matches in the division when he managed Norwich, but the 49ers have given him a major reassurance that he will not be sacked, with much better backing too.

Farke’s record in the top division is poor.

That should allow the Whites to move forward and get their business started in the transfer market, as their squad needs heavy investment.

The gap between the divisions is at an all-time high, with the likes of Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich Town coming straight back down to the second tier, with the Peacocks facing an almighty task to ensure survival.

Ethan Ampadu is considered as one of the only few players that are ready for the step up and the question marks over Farke’s standing in the dugout would have hindered their attempts to improve the team.

New signings would not want to come to a club where the future of the manager was not certain, but now that the issue is resolved, there will be no such concerns.
