Medical scheduled: Middlesbrough want double signing, Finn Azaz and Leeds United ace Luke Ayling in sights
Middlesbrough are looking to seal deals for Leeds United defender Luke Ayling and Aston Villa attacking midfielder Finn Azaz, according to Sky Sports.
The news outlet reported on its Transfer Centre (3 January, 18:21) that Azaz will be having his medical at the Riverside on Wednesday night.
They also aim to sign the Leeds right-back who’s fallen in the pecking order under Daniel Farke this season.

Sky wrote: “Middlesbrough have agreed a £2m deal with Aston Villa to sign Finn Azaz.
“The attacking-midfielder is undergoing a medical with Boro tonight.
“The 23-year-old has spent the first half of the season on loan at Plymouth – but Villa have always had the option to recall him this month.
“He is a former Republic of Ireland U21 international who impressed on loan at Plymouth during their promotion season from League One last year.
“Sky Sports News reported earlier today that Boro are also interested in Leeds defender Luke Ayling.”
Good deal?
Ayling has been a stalwart for Leeds, contributing significantly to the club’s success, including the promotion to the Premier League.
His commitment, versatility and leadership, especially when captaining the side, have endeared him to the Elland Road faithful.
However, football is often about evolution and with Ayling’s limited appearances and the emergence of younger talents like Archie Gray, it’s apparent that the time has come for both the player and the club to part ways.

Leeds exercised an option to extend Ayling’s contract until 2024 last year, showcasing their gratitude for his services.
However, the changing dynamics at Elland Road, with a new regime and manager, signal a shift in the team’s direction.
Ayling’s departure can free up resources and provide opportunities for emerging talents.
Middlesbrough’s interest indicates that Ayling’s experience can still be valuable elsewhere.
While fans will forever be grateful for Ayling’s contributions, parting ways now allows the club to embrace new challenges and fresh faces as they navigate the future of their squad.
In other Leeds United news, an international player linked with a move to Elland Road is unhappy at his current club and could be on his way out in the January transfer window.
