Medical done: Leeds United to complete 'dream' signing of Maximilian Wober from Red Bull Salzburg

Maximilian Wober has completed his Leeds United medical ahead of finalising a move to Elland Road, according to Salzburger Nachrichten.

The 24-year-old defender is viewed as a “dream” signing by Jesse Marsch and it’s understood Wober is looking forward to a new challenge away from RB Salzburg.

Salzburger Nachrichten report (print edition, page 18, 30 December) that a fee still needs to be agreed between the two clubs, with the sum likely to be over £13.3million.

This is superb news for the Elland Road faithful, with defensive reinforcements certainly high on the agenda of Marsch in the January window. He will be delighted to have the chance to work with another one of his former players and there’s a good chance the defender will be a success, much-like Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams have been since their arrivals at Elland Road.

Next on the agenda for Leeds will be a left back, with Junior Firpo’s form and injury record causing the American a headache. Pascal Struijk has performed well out of position, but it’s time for Leeds to land a left-back if they really want to push on.

A striker will also be top of the list for Marsch with Patrick Bamford’s current form leaving a lot to be desired in the 2022/23 season. Rodrigo has been superb so far, but the Spaniard cannot be expected to carry all of Leeds’ goalscoring expectations for the remainder of the window.

Nevertheless, this is an excellent start to the January window and will certainly get fans excited for what’s to come.
