Max Wober stuns Sky Sports pundit with 'unbelievable' intervention for Leeds United at Wolves
Michael Dawson couldn’t believe what he had seen as Max Wober kept Leeds United in the lead with a crucial first-half block at Wolves.
Just inside half an hour at Molineux Max Kilman was left in all sorts of space down the left to play a ball through the Whites’ six-yard box in front of everyone, and after Junior Firpo just about managed to prevent it being put in at the back post the ball came out to Nelson Semedo to smash in the rebound.
Instead, Wober got himself in the way of the shot to prevent what seemed like a certain equaliser, having also made a goal-line clearance earlier in the half, and Dawson was amazed watching on in the studio.
Speaking live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (18 March, 3.27pm) the pundit said: “Semedo, you think he’s just going to come on, hit it with his laces through it, he does, but Max Wober comes from nowhere and makes an absolutely unbelievable block.”
Vital
The first-half saw Leeds United take a rare lead in at the break and that was in no small part thanks to Wober at the back.

After Jack Harrison’s sixth-minute opener following good work down the left from Willy Gnonto it was almost all Wolves, with the January signing from Red Bull Salzburg and Illan Meslier somehow keeping the home side out.
Luke Ayling had a miserable afternoon in the first 45 minutes at right back, while Harrison and Weston McKennie didn’t exactly help him out.
It was the defender’s dramatic late winner that registered a vital three points in this fixture last season, and he went a long way towards making up for his failings at the back by getting on the scoresheet after the break, recreating his memorable celebration from the previous campaign.
Wober was the exact opposite, with a huge performance at the back that started in the pouring rain and had players slipping over throughout.
His signing has made a massive difference to the Whites’ backline, and without him today it would have been the kind of chaotic defensive showing that has thrown away so many points over the past two seasons, but held out just enough to see a huge three points secured in a madcap game.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have convinced a player to sign for the club even if they are relegated.
