Leeds United a “very confident” of agreeing a four-year deal with Barcelona teenager Ilias Akhomach, a source close to the player has told LUFCFANZONE.

The Catalan giants had wanted to keep hold of the teenage winger, who has also attracted interest from AC Milan, but the Whites appear to be on the brink of securing his signature.

LUFCFANZONE, whom Andrea Radrizzani has confirmed have club sources, had previously broken the news on 20 February that Victor Orta’s multiple meetings with the player’s representatives had put the club at the front of the queue to sign the 18-year-old, and it appears the deal is now close to completion.

Reporting via Instagram on Thursday afternoon (16 March) LUFCFANZONE shared their exclusive update: “A source close to the player has told LUFCFANZONE that Leeds are very confident of agreeing a 4 year contract with the young Barcelona attacker, and have submitted an offer which has satisfied the player.

“Akhomach wants to prove himself in the Premier League, but also wouldn’t say no to the Championship if the worst was to happen to Leeds at the end of the season.

“The 18 year old will not renew his contract at Barcelona which ends at the end of the campaign, and is available for transfer for a very minimal tribunal cost because of his youth development at Barca.”

Commitment

Amid week after week of stress as the relegation battle looks set to go down to the wire this is a timely piece of positive news for Leeds United fans.

The club has proven adept at signing exciting young attacking talent over the past couple of seasons, with Willy Gnonto the star attraction, but Sonny Perkins and Mateo Joseph’s under-21s exploits have forced them into some senior playing time.

Akhomach appears to be the next one through the door if this agreement can be struck soon, and it will be an impressive signing to get done ahead of the reigning Serie A champions and the prospective La Liga winners.

Orta has made his fair share of errors in terms of the managerial situation but he deserves credit for his work towards bringing in the teenage wide man.

Nothing is certain until a contract has been signed and he is officially announced, as Whites fans know as well as any fanbase given how things have gone in the past year.

But if this is a young player who is not put off by the relegation peril that the club are currently battling then it suggests that, at worst, he could be a talented weapon towards a promotion push should the end of the season end badly, even if he may not remain in West Yorkshire for the long-haul.
