Matthew Lewis shares what Alan Shearer told him about Leeds at special event

Matthew Lewis was representing Leeds United in the past week at a special Premier League event over in the United States.

Alongside him was Alan Shearer, who was specially flown over the event to cover the Newcastle takeover.

Lewis has shared one of his conversations with Shearer, who joked about his goalscoring record against the Whites in the past.

Speaking on the official Leeds United podcast this week, Lewis shared his discussion with the Premier League legend.

“The Premier League flew him out for it,” he said. “I was chatting to him about the Newcastle takeover and I told him about when I was growing up he was one of my favourite strikers.

“He goes, ‘I appreciate that, I was really gutted when Leeds went down, they cost me four goals a season’ – even now, still giving us stick, couldn’t believe it.”

Here we go.

This is a classic Shearer line.

We have heard this one from the Newcastle icon so many times, and it looks as though he is a broken record based on this.

Everyone can take a joke, and Shearer is actually one in a shortlist of pundits who we can actually stand listening to.

Hopefully, the Whites aren’t slowly going towards another dreadful end to this season, but we need to start bucking up our ideas.

Marcelo Bielsa is at the helm this time around, and we are all very confident that he can turn things around.

Starting this Sunday afternoon at Norwich, a big win could be the catalyst to start a push towards the top half of the Premier League – fingers crossed.
