Matt Le Tissier & Phil Thompson predict Leeds United v Newcastle United clash
Newcastle United and Leeds United lock horns at St. James Park on Friday night, with both clubs still searching for their first Premier League win of the season.
The home side were thrashed 4-1 by Manchester United on Saturday, while the Whites were easily beaten 3-0 by Liverpool a day later.
Speaking on the latest ‘Where’s Jeff ?’ podcast [16/09/21], Matt Le Tissier, Charlie Nicholas and Phil Thompson have all delivered their verdict ahead of the clash on Tyneside.
“I’ve gone for Leeds United,” Le Tissier said. “I’m pretty confident in my selection.”
“I wouldn’t go anywhere near that,” Nicholas replied.
Thompson pondered: “Are Leeds capable? What I saw against Liverpool, I just thought they were a bit toothless up front. It didn’t really happen for them, so I am a little bit surprised, I was looking at this for a draw which is why I didn’t want to go anywhere near it.
“I can probably see this as a 1-1 draw.”
Friday is when we will really know where Leeds are at this season.
So far this season, they have disappointed in the Premier League, failing to claim a win.
However, their two defeats came against heavyweights Manchester United and Liverpool, and that’s hardly cause for concern.
Their two draws were against Everton and Burnley, meanwhile, were not embarrassing by any means.
But they play a troubled Newcastle side on Friday, at a stadium that may well become toxic if events go against the home team
Newcastle supporters are desperate for Steve Bruce to be sacked, and there remains a huge disconnect between the fans and owner.
This is a game Leeds should be aiming to dominate and collect all three points.
